POV: Deaths come in threes.
The superstition says that deaths occur in a set of three. That when one person passes, we should expect the second immediately, and if that one occurs, the third is looming and there is nothing we can do about it.
The number 3 in religion represents the Holy Trinity. We see triangles symbolizing the Trinity, wisdom, and God's calling on us and God's connection with us.
The number three is prevalent in so many things we do and say.
Beginning, Middle, End.
Past, Present, Future.
It's also prevalent in our fairy tales and nursery rhymes.
3 Little Pigs
3 Blind Mice
3 Billy Goats Gruff
When wishes are granted, there are 3…
While there are no Bible verses related to deaths occurring in 3s, there are some Appalachian superstitions about deaths happening in groups of three.
Also, it is a real thing that grief can be severe enough that a loved one passes, and another then passes immediately after because broken hearts (and heart attacks due to acute stress and shock) are real. Its also a thing that you can be pulled beyond the veil in vulnerable state if your connection to the recently deceased is strong enough.
Mexican folklore talks about there being 3 deaths.
The heart stops
The burial
No one is alive that remembers you and people stop speaking your name (memory dies)
Likewise, there is also the superstition that bad things in general happen in 3s. It may happen in 4s but maybe we just stop counting at 3….
We also have to consider how much we will to happen by expecting a second and a third.
Be blessed.
The more you know.
